Keeping the ball in play

Kicker was put on the Internet from the very beginning. Over the years, the technical infrastructure also grew and initially managed to withstand the onslaught.

However, the third generation of the internal content management system – with about 13,000 articles per year – ultimately required professional processes in online editing and the infrastructure on which it was based.

This included both infrastructure in the form of a professional content management system that could perfectly fulfil the requirements of an online editorial department and the creation of own processes. The expansion and restructuring of kicker.de thus took place in several phases.

Relaunch just before kick-off

To relaunch kicker.de with its new design, the existing articles were transferred via an importer specially provided by imperia's implementation partner, Netpioneer. The data structure was shown as a template using import scripts and ultimately imported into imperia. Several test runs were conducted before all the data were imported into imperia in a 'big bang' just before the actual launch.

Processes and workflows: The ball is rolling at kicker.de

Thanks to imperia's sophisticated workflow control system, the editors can now focus entirely on their actual work. The hectic pace of the past, with errors being eliminated on the live object, has now been replaced with a workflow concept that makes for more or less stress-free operation. The various status reports on a document also make it clear which articles still require intervention from in-house editors.
